In the middle of the room is an opulent table with fruit and vegetables, meat and fish spilling out of fine, lustrous white porcelain. In their fragility, they stand for the fleetingness on earth.
Set against the redolence of the magnificent festivals that were celebrated in this castle, the pieces call into question the simultaneous fragility and persistence of luxury and decadence in our own time.
Luxury and wealth, magnificent festivals were celebrated here in the castle Schloss Charlottenburg. Are those times over? Isn't our present time also characterized by luxury and decadence? Where will this take us?
A transformation as a counterpart takes place on the second table.
Referring to the Vanitas paintings of the 17th century this installation is filled of symbols, which inspire spectators to reflect on their impermanence, on fleeting nature of life, the absurdity of worldly pleasure, and the futile pursuit of status and fame.
Finally, any sudden destruction holds the chance of a new beginning.
